DIY Tips to Help you sell your Home Faster

DIY Tips to Help you sell your Home Faster

At some point and time the majority of us find that we need to sell a home. This often occurs after the death of a loved one, and we often need to move the property quickly so that we can get on with our lives. There are a few simple things that you can do to help a home sell more quickly.

You should look around the home and see which rooms are in need of a fresh coat of paint. Remember that people who come to see a home need to imaging themselves living in it and rooms that have fresh paint jobs look cleaner, and more appealing. You only get one chance to make a good first impression, so repaint rooms that need it, or freshen up trim paint on the exterior, and interior where needed.

If you are not clearing everything out of the home, for a home that you are living in while it is up for sale, reduce the clutter. When you have boxes of clothing, or things sitting on the floor of a room, or a closet, then it says to the prospective buyer that there is not enough storage space in the house. Reduce clutter and get boxes off of the floor and up onto shelves.

Clean the house thoroughly. This means wiping every shelf down, and even cleaning the basement. You want the place to smell as good as possible so mop every room that can be mopped, clean carpeting, and place air fresheners in any areas that might be problematic. You want the prospective buyer to find everything about the home to be pleasant.

Look around the house for small problems that you can fix easily. A dripping exterior faucet can cause stains on the side of the house, and can be easily repaired. A Roman shade that has difficulties being raised and lowered should be replaced with one that is easy to maneuver up and down. Place caulk around windows, and fix squeaky doors by oiling the hinges. Simple repairs like these can actually make a big difference when it is time to sell your home.

You want to clean your refrigerator out using baking soda to remove stains and odors. Then place a few pieces of fresh fruit, and some bottled water in the fridge so that people can envision their food in it. Do not leave leftovers that are uncovered or take-out food packages in the fridge.

If you are still living in the home make sure that you take all calendars, and planners, that might have personal information about when the family members will be away from the home, and where they will be, and place these items in a drawer so they are not easily seen. This is a precautionary step to stop people who might be thieves from knowing when you will not be home.

Remember to lock away any really valuable items in a home safe, or remove them from the home before it is shown to strangers. You can never be too safe.
